Banzaan Market

Banzaan Market located behind The Jungceylon Shopping Center. That market is very clean and bright , certified by the Thai Ministry of Public Health and Commerce. Foods on display is very good quality and offers a wider variety as well. As most markets ,the place is divided in zones: fruits , vegetables , meat ,fish ,seafood and all the cooking ingredients. At night the street surrounding the market becomes a huge night market where you can buy food ,Thai dessert and delicatessen from food carts.

Highlights of the Banzaan Market :

  • Fresh seafood for sale. Muscles, shrimps, prawns, crabs, squids, turtles, and all kinds of fish.
  • Fresh fruits for sale. Oranges that are green, watermelons that are yellow, grapes with seeds, several types of mango, durian, sugar cane juice, coconut juice, coconuts, mangosteen, Rambutans, apple custard, pineapple, and a host of other bizzare fruits from Asia.
  • Fresh Vegies of all kinds; too many to list.
  • Food court upstairs. Thai and Chinese, no fast food or luxury meals. Cheap, clean and tasty.
  • Assortment of gift shops upstairs.

Chafa Variety Weekend Market

Posted on by admin in Shopping Center Leave a comment

’Phuket Weekend Market’ is the name given by tourists to this overgrown Phuket town night bazaar, while Thai call it ‘Talad Tairod’, which literally means ‘Car Boot Sale’. ‘Chaofa Variety Market’ seems to be the official name written on some signs, and ‘Phuket Chatuchak’ is also used, by reference to the giant week end market in Bangkok.

And big it is… crowded, hot, fun and overwhelming! Everything you don’t need is there and most of it is fake! You can walk for hours looking at this huge bric a brac that makes this kind of market fun. There won’t be much need for writing, it’s all in the photos!

Easy to go Phuket Weekend Market :
From Central Festival Phuket, take direction Rawai Beach and turn left at the second traffic light and it’s right there. There is a large parking in the back, but I usually try to park on the road, it gets really jammed at night.
You can divide the Phuket Weekend market in two sections: the shopping and the food.

Shopping :

A lot of clothing, most carrying a brand, but the price gives a hint about the authenticity. If you enjoy this kind of shopping you’ll have tons of fun, but you might also realize later that material, shape and quality doesn’t compare either. Bags, watches, accessories of course follow the same exact rule. I actually found few interesting local designs.

Food :
Here is your chance to try a lot of fun things…. all the classics are here, fried, deep fried, boiled, steamed, crushed, chilled, rolled, sliced and fermented. Don’t be shy, try all you can (even the giant Jack fruits and durian!). Like most people, pick something and nibble as you walk, or seat at one of the shops tables or go to the back restaurants.

There is another new fun market on the Island called ‘Phuket Indy Market’, which is essentially young Thai designers trying to make a name or bit of money. It’s small but pretty good and a lot more inspiring.
